US Ukraine
Energy Dialogue III
Securing Ukraine's Energy Independence
April 15 -16
2008
Washington,
DC
The US-Ukraine
Energy Dialogue Series is scheduled to hold its third annual event on April
15-16, 2008 in Washington DC.
The series began with
Senator Lugar's eloquent insight, voiced during Roundtable VI of the
Ukraine’s Quest for Mature Nation Statehood Roundtable Series,
that the time had arrived to begin a serious set of discussions on energy issues
between the appropriate governmental, non-governmental and corporate
representatives of the United States and Ukraine. The UA Quest RT Series
organizers, including the American Foreign Policy Council, the Center for
US-Ukrainian Relations and the Orange Circle, took the insight to heart and
sought to create a formal mechanism to facilitate such discussion; at that
moment, the US-Ukraine Energy Dialogue Series was born.
An inaugural event was
staged in Nov. 2005 on Capitol Hill, which featured then Ukrainian Prime
Minister Yuri Yekhanurov and Minister of Energy Ivan Plachkov as featured
speakers. An equally successful follow up event took place in Houston, the
heartland of America’s energy industry, in May 2006.
The initial portion of this year’s
gathering, devoted to exploring US-UA bilateral energy policy issues from a
geo-political and geo-economic perspective, will be held again on Capitol Hill
[afternoon of April 15, 2008]; Senator Richard Lugar, who has served as the
patron of each of Energy Dialogues, will provide opening remarks. A second part
of the dialogue, dealing with issues of investment by US firms in UA energy
exploration & conservation projects, is scheduled to be held at the Hyatt
Capitol Hill [evening of April 15, 2008 & morning of April 16,
2008]
